C'est une des raisons pour lesquelles je suis sorti de mon abstentionnisme militant et que je retourne aux urnes depuis 2022: les manipulations qu'on a pu observer lors de l'élection de Trump et du Brexit (Cambridge analytica, la Russie...) et l'observation que leur objectif principal c'est de dissuader des électeurs de gauche d'aller aux urnes par tous les moyens.
(L'autre raison étant le constat que ce n'est pas du pareil au même pour plein de populations...)

@npub129g…4kwg recurring reminder that Microsoft is still a problem.
They own VScode, they own GitHub, they own Copilot, they own LinkedIn, and obviously Windows, and the whole Office productivity suite.
The complete dependency of crates.io on GitHub is a big issue in itself.
Cultural egemony is a problem.
Even if Microsoft wasn't Microsoft, monoculture is a disease.

async fn get_user_messages();
async fn get_last_ten_public_messages();
The first query will look like:
SELECT {{10 fields}} FROM messages WHERE user = $1;
While the second will look like:
SELECT {{10 fields}} FROM messages WHERE public = True ORDER BY id DESC LIMIT 10";
If I have to add a eleventh field to my struct, I'll have to fix all my queries which is the opposite of DRY. I don't see how to handle that in a single query with sqlx...

@npub1eqg…fncn async is not the issue, SQL definitely is as I'm definitely terrible with it. But that's the thing: maybe I need to become less terrible at SQL instead of letting an ORM babysit me.
What made me pause and write this message is that I have to write like 5 or 10 queries which all have the same SELECT part and they just have the WHERE / ORDER / LIMIT part being different. Yet with sqlx I have no idea how to do that without repeating myself (and using concat!() for that sounds gross...)

Is there a recent, balanced article/blog post/video/whatever discussing the pros and cons of the different #SQL crates for #rustlang #rust ? Getting more and more frustrated with #sqlx , considering switching to #diesel or #seaorm but maybe (probably) it's just me using it wrong...
