Unofficial solo self-supported ultras might be my fave race format. I am registered for a race in August and I think I will focus on unofficial attempts after that.
Benefits for me - minimal exposure to scented products as no hotels, no other racers! I get to plan the route (so much fun!). Reduced covid risk (no travel, no kit pickup, no aid stations- I mask for all of that anyway but still risky - folks don't stay home when sick!). Reduced cost. No travel or registration. No undesirable swag

Licking my wounds after yesterday's inaugural Thunder Honey Snow Ultra. I got in 67.5km, failing to break 80km as hoped. I need to sort race nutrition. My feet are in rough shape. I am going to experiment with other socks. Pacing, HR all really strong. Felt good until 62km. LOVED the unofficial race format. LOVED!!
Going to use my 50km race in August as a training run & taper for another unofficial crack at the 80km. Learn & adjust!
