i'm literally in the midst of writing a recommendation engine and it has a database of recorded recommendations and i'm just building out the response endpoint that it requires
the architecture of your intended system is almost identical in most respects, add item to list, random select item, record item was given, don't give item again next time
it's not a front end thing, this requires a database and an API
i could probably build it in 5 days at about 3-4h/day work once i have the full data spec and user story

it's a bit like money in that trusted third parties can abuse you, and there is whole systems of funnels and conspiracy to herd people into trust vulnerability specifically to abuse them, whether it's spooks or advertisers
the modern statutes of governments are actually fraud anyway (they are statutes, and you have to be an agent of the issuer of statutes to be bound by them) it wasn't even that long ago that you didn't need a passport or ID, they just slowly normalised that with driver's licenses and student IDs and such like, corporate fascist fraud that by accepting these registrations you are then effectively an unpaid agent of the state, which is not what they openly say to you but that's what they impute by the way they drag you into courts over offenses against their rules, when it used to be you would only be in a court in a case where some other person was claiming you harmed them

IMO most meat is still ridiculously so full of blood and it messes with the taste of it, the salt removes some of it but letting the meat drain and dry a little tiny bit is better IMO, i almost always hang my beef up to drain out for half a day or so - i only get it frozen so it's basically killed and stuck in a freezer wrapped in plastic immediately

it looks nice for a subtropical climate but it looks awful for a temperate climate
plain old thatching and wood frames are better even for subtropical climates (that was the norm here in #madeira until a couple hundred years ago)
i think you could extend this steel pole frame geodesic stuff to be suitable for colder climates if you do double layers, but i have lived in the cold, there is NO WAY this building is any good if your winter temps go below 12`C

i almost feel bad to decline the second meeting with the cat doctor
but honestly, i have lived with this little monster for some time now (about 10 weeks) and he did not seem at all like as sick as the outward signs showed, it's like, this little guy is a natural born stoic, he's holding all his energy in to keep the enemy at bay and, well, taking the pain
it just feels like the doc gave the prescription for what will resolve all the things, and i just have to give him all the treatments and it will be fine after that, and i don't really need to take the long 45 minute trip to the vet again when he's gonna be tearing my house up playing in 5 days time due to the correct prescription

I have to say i'm kinda impressed with #mochi the #catstr after his visit to the good vet
the vet literally said he was surprised he was still eating with the level of inflammation he observed in his ear (ear infection)
my mochi is a tough little dude
he is also very talkative, he keeps on signalling to me even though he's ok, in a half asleep state
i think he wants me to take him up to the bed and snuggle, he's really insistent, he keeps on chirping at me, but, sorta different to usual

the beauty of Go is it lets you learn architecture
almost no other language makes it viable to build something while being retarded but then also lead you to actually designing your architecture correctly
i seriously could not have broken into dev without this smooth flow, but very few devs in other ecosystems even understand this... it's because Go was written by old timers who have been running dev teams for eons. it makes it easier to progress from one point to the next, and what they have done since 1.22 is amazing, i mean, they have basically swatted away all the whines about "why doesn't go have this feature" with the most elegant implementation of actually more flexible features than exist... they will be playing catch up soon

yeah, the interesting thing is that a lot of what you have done is similar to what relayer does though you aren't using interfaces where they should be (just reading RelayFunctions right now) if you make those individual methods into individual interfaces you can optionally process with them in the main thread
also i noticed a lot of these methods you have a client type as the first parameter, this is a red flag you should be making the client type as an implementation type of the interface and then you can leave the rest out and you can use those methods anywhere if they are present (relayer does this with auth and several other things)

i have used argon2 in the Go implementation on several occasions as a KDF, and speaking of Go, most distros still only have 1.18 Go and it's way further ahead now, and a lot of things you can do since 1.22 are not compatible with 1.18 or less

i have cloned rely and i will give it some good reading to figure out what this is about
modularity has not been a big focus with my work as i have kinda stringent definitions about what should be what and although i think that the existing mute/follow event data is probably not a final state the principle still applies (as in, whatever scheme can be used to assign white and black lists to nostr:npubs for a relay are still valid, i'm just working on a N=2 distance for what should be whitelisted, on the basis of the "friends and guests" model, as i am calling it).
i will of course steal all the good ideas i see in your code and add them to mine, and i cheer at the inception of a new relay architecture that is focused to your project's needs
we will collude to create better designs, because we share them with each other and find economically productive or at least theoretically efficient ways to do things that didn't exist before

i broke a lot of things in the event and filter types as per the API but i did it for reasons that made it easier to use, so, i understand that migrating will be some work
i'm just gonna say though
my codecs are the fastest, idk about other languages but they are the fastest nostr json codecs for standard minified json, by like 30% or more; i spent a lot of time making them minimal and i have even now made it so you can even throw pretty printed json at it, if you must, and it will handle it (turned out my code didn't swallow the whitespace so well, as i expected, so it falls back to stdlib json encoder library if it sees whitespace in the message

relayer breaks apart the interfaces and composes them, and that lets you extract them if they exist to do interface specific things
https://realy.lol contains primarily libraries, the codebase parts of the actual relay are trivial compared to the library parts
the big long top level directory is that way because it makes importing things simpler, and lays out all the parts with human readable names from top to bottom. it's not quite idiomatic but when you see how much it cleans up your import blocks and makes them understandable you will agree
relayer, also, part of why i preferred it, is better at managing the number of threads in the websocket listeners, i had a huge problem with khatru's socket design that made it unsuitable for production in even... i mean, can you imagine? i don't even understand how khatru based relays are still functioning the excessive amount of threading they use
also, yeah, not to forget, i totally flattened the concurrency of the event store, so, it also is a solution for that, excessive amounts of threads in each query were a component of the resource leak problem i found with khatru/eventstore design
i have also added, btw, an index to the event store that lets you go from event serial to having the pubkey, event ID and created_at of the event, without having to decode any JSON, this was built to enable the different API i made that the /filter endpoint only returns event IDs, meaning the client can then paginate them arbitrarily, without pushing that work to the relay
there are some cases where it's better to paginate on the networked DB and i don't think that the client use case is that, this way, clients can grab a whole massive list of event IDs matching a query and pick at them as the user wants to see them

i would like it more if you would help me make #realy more modular
relayer has better architecture and realy was forked from that base
i'm not pleased about how much features i have plugged into realy at this point, i wish i could tease them apart and make them pluggable and modular, but i think that the http protocol is going to be a big deal and to make it viable it has to have the old protocol and the new experimental protocol available at teh same time or it isn't really useful for new protocol clients
i don't like go-nostr at all, though i'm not saying that realy's libraries are exactly perfect, the tags, in particular, are a bit clunky, but performance of the library is way above what exists, it's damn near if not the fastest library for all the things
i am in a steady process of improving the documentation of realy and its libraries, and if you go to https://realy.lol and go look at the /realy directory, that is basically the core, and /cmd/realy is the parts that start it up
if you were to contribute a new relay framework scheme to realy that would be amazing, and you can just add them by names or a subdirectory of items under /cmd and add any extra libraries you need at the root
i spent a lot of time studying how satoshi structured bitcoin's codebase and if you are familiar with that, you will see that i have followed a similar pattern, the reason for it though is shorter import names, but it is ugly on github, but fuck github, they should show the readme above the file list anyway

there is an epic giant rock between Faial and Santana that has to be seen
the other side of Boaventura is a lush forested place that you don't really see it properly from afar, when you are in it, mmm it's almost like rainforest
i'm fine to stick here in unwanted, damp, moldy boaventura, and the people here are mostly hermits, who like the relative isolation, but i was told that there is marinas in Ponta Delgada and Santana so when i get to having a boat, idk, i'm probably gonna go with Ponta Delgada because it's only a 40 minute walk away, but it's nice to know that indeed i could keep a sloop docked so close to me and me and the mochi could go get onboard and go sailing on a nice summer warm day and catch fish and feed my kitty raw, just barely ded cod and tuna
it's not a life for everyone, i'm adventurous, and this is what i want
now, i just need to figure out a way to up my pay grade so i can do less hours for more fiat.
i feel like this new work building recommendation/matchmaking engines might lead somewhere forwards in the future

yeah i'm gonna have to try that, i have noticed it does pacify them a bit... the last step i have to take is ear cleaning and some kind of salve i need to put into his ears... i'll take the easy road with that, just start with nice pats and then after he's feeling calm, pinch the neck and apply the cleaning stuff
anyway, he'll just get used to it when it doesn't actually hurt, it's just that his whole head is a big ball of pain, so touching it does hurt him, but i think after it's happened a few times he will start to figure out it's nothing bad and be more relaxed, it's just gonna take time, i'm as nervous as he is

i think that they are optimizing for data size and compute time and more depth of causal chains means exponentially bigger models are required
probably you can make it work but you have to allow for 10-100x as much data in the model and about the same difference in computation, and my guess is that renders the efficiency gain null
and i don't think it's gonna be that much different in C, Rust or C++, they are all very strongly typed and have deep semantics with side effects that you don't see with the little scripts of javascript and python code

probably the hype about AI and code is based on the fact it can cope with the retardedly simple type semantics of javascript, which are basically nonexistent
ironically, it is easier for humans to reason about and more efficient for compilers to use strict typing, there is no compiler that outperforms Go on the basis of lines of code

i wrote a reasonably decent, responsive UI in pure go about 5 years ago
it's not that i can't think about how to build these things, i literally even from scratch wrote a proper scrollbar for a library that didn't have one
good luck finding a javascript ninja who can even comprehend events and scaling and representing data graphically
they literally can't, and the people who can make them with javascript make all these libraries that can't be used at the same time with each other, because this thing or that thing
it's a void into which i'm simply not going to waste my time going because i like to be able to reason about my code.
