yes, nostr watch has a large list. and soon we can use nip66 draft to start building a distributed database of the relays in notes so that clients wont need to call nostr watch apis.

freedom isnt free 😅 or ur the product etc. reading a relay, i dont see a point in someone writing to a relay only to have everyone centralize to the biggest aggregators. those aggregators wouldnt exist, without homegrown relays, so they will need to pay for this, or relays ded.

also just to mention, some of the relays that need auth, are just asking for a key. ANY key.. so you could auth with a different key, and then if the relay is open like this, send and req any valid events on that connection, except DMs as those require auth by your main key.

I'm not looking at the IPs no, scrapers and such will not usually disco. if they want to re-scrape data from months ago over and over uselessly, or an app has just gone wild after being put out to pasture and it's causing a REQ loop, they can make their pubkey known to the relay and use their allotment of REQs. Workers such as blastr, is why I refer to assuming there are many IPs and it being somewhat useless to base your filtering on.

there are also some apis you can use to manage your relay or grab the ACL lists. i think this is an eventual evolution because there are so many ways you may want to configure the lists, API is first class citizen. 🍮

ive had a mod portal and api for a while, pre86. i will add nip86 support at some point..
people dont seem to use active moderation very much, as its far more efficient to use lists and lightning payments than to sit there deleting infinity replyguy like a nostr caveman 😂 once you start battling with spam a bit more you may have a similar realization.

nice, yes you could take the commands used for the docker build and use em in a systemd nspawn build.. you can copy one of the other machines dirs for a template.
if you want, no pressure, would be valuable i think, and then i could help figure out how to have it integrate into the stack so all the machines can find its endpoint

i agree its all very problematic. relay.tools relays will not post the reaction used for mod action, but if you send them to other relays then same problem. thats why itd be nice if clients would allow events to be targeted to a specific relay..
the ironic thing is we wouldnt even have these events if it wasnt so damus could get in the app store, now theyre a legal nightmare. a trojan horse.

when i started experimenting with nostr business a year and a half ago, the future was bright. we had lightning and bitcoiners. we had micropayments, something no other social tech had.
but now, there's a growing anti lightning sentiment between the client devs, they want new users at any cost, and in their mind they think sacrificing and suppressing lightning will lead to this. "its too hard for new users", they say. they think bitcoin content is in the way of adoption. they think micropayments are not a good spam deterrent. they think big tech model of free services for the masses is the way to grow.
whats the way forward then? how is this any different than 2-3 blueskys, without micropayments as a first class thing? #asknostr #askjack

no, in theory wot relays, wot clients, lightning network.. thats what all my 'game theory' ideas keep coming back to as a solution. but i think im about a year ahead of everyone from running these relays and seeing all the spam all the time. you dont follow that many people so you may not see the endless misery of the users that it's not fixed for, gave up, etc.

ive been rolling out new server capacity and a new higher availability architecture (while remaining free of big cloud tech).
one of the new(er) servers, something went (got a huge traffic spike?) wrong and it had to be rebooted. it should not have had as much of an impact on the cluster either, but it did.
still root causing and etc, such is the server life 😎

I think it's both. So, the particles zooming around in an aurora storm, knocks out the intergalactic cosmic rays. This is only what I learned at the geo institute of the Rocket range supercomputer that studied the aurora in alaska.. Otherwise, it pierces the shield... weakining shield is obvs not good.
