Filters work in the same way a tall fence and guard dog works. They can't stop every possible attack, but they deter most and raise the cost of success.

In order for Core and Knots to satisfy dependents such as LND, they have the same package ID. This means StartOS sees them as the same service under the hood. So when you clicked "Update" for Core, StartOS probably showed you a loading indicator for Knots as well. Don't worry, it didn't get installed, just a bug that is already fixed in the next version of StartOS

Check out the instructions. Many apps/browsers consider "ws" insecure even though it's not with a .onion URL. There are ways around this with Firefox, but if the app itself does not allow it, there is no real solution except to wait for StartOS v0.3.6 when you can put your relay on a clearnet domain

Don't need to leave the UI open. But if Alby Hub or your server restarts, you need to log in to the UI to unlock the DB. This is fixed in the next version of Alby Hub where you can enable an "auto unlock" feature

No, we are not talking about the same thing. I see now, you're saying you got an external drive for the purpose of creating a backup, but StartOS can't see it. Almost certainly a formatting issue. You could probably format it ext4 and that would help. Also possible StartOS v0.3.6 (currently in testing) will recognize it because it as-is is based on a newer Linux kernel.

With StartOS at present, you get one "data" drive. You can flash StartOS to the internal drive, then use an external drive for service data, or you can use the same (internal or external) drive for both StartOS and service data. This choice is made during initial setup and cannot be changed afterward. The feature for progressively adding additional data drives is coming in a later release.

You can flash StartOS (which is just a Linux distro) for free to any of those computers. Furthermore, you can flash StartOS to the internal drive on the computer, then attach an external drive for all the service data, which naturally includes the blockchain if you choose to run Bitcoin.

You should create a backup whenever you open or close a new channel. This will create a static channel backup as well as your on-chain seed.

Just FYI, we have a policy of delaying releases a little, especially for services that manage funds, unless they contain a critical fix. Hard lesson learned. Sometimes, new versions contain bugs, rarely critical bugs, so it's not good to rush into them. Mempool, the service. Like mempool.spac. We do not recommend running it all the time becuase it eats up a ton of resources. It seems they have plans to make it more efficient for home servers in the future, but right now it's a beast.
Just turn it on when you need it, then turn it back off, no big deal.

Only while it's syncing. Under normal operation, Mempool probably he biggest resource hog we have, so big in fact that we do not recommend running it all the time, only when you need it. Otherwise electrs and LND can use a lot. Go with 32GB RAM because it's not much more expensive but will be a noticable improvement.

Haven't heard of Chronicle before, looks cool.
That said, our capacity to package services is quite limited. In the very early days, it was necessary to bootstrap the marketplace with a few services, and we continue to maintain a few staples, but largely it is up to developers or their communities to package the service for StartOS, just like they would for Mac, Windows, Debian, etc.
Many developers will not see value in packaging for StartOS yet, but hopefully in time there is enough pressure potential users that they will see value in it. We're already seeing this with many services, dozens in fact, so the trend is definitely positive. I wish we had infinite resources, but we don't don't, and what we have will remain largely focused on OS development.
