I love how curious he is about the world around him. When we go for walks, he likes to go up to all of the apartment building entrances and look inside the glass doors. What I would do to see the world through his eyes!

I want to share an update with all of you who generously donated bitcoin through Nostr zaps and Geyser Fund donations to help my brother after he lost everything to the Palisades fires.
🙏 First, thank you. Your generosity and kindness in such a devastating time mean more than words can express.
Over 200 people from around the world contributed bitcoin, and this experience has been eye-opening. Compared to traditional fundraising platforms like GoFundMe, Bitcoin offered solutions that were faster, simpler, and more impactful when we needed help immediately.
Here’s what I mean:
1. Instant Access to Funds: On GoFundMe, the verification process takes up to 10 days. After that, there’s another 5-day waiting period to withdraw the funds. That’s 15 days before you can even use the money. With bitcoin, there was no delay. Donations came in instantly, and I was able to use the funds immediately to buy Visa and Amazon gift cards via @npub1m7r…ny2w , which I used to get my brother food, clothes, medication, and other essentials right away.
2. No Bureaucratic Barriers: GoFundMe requires connecting a bank account and completing identity verification, which can be a slow and cumbersome process. With bitcoin, there was no need for me—or the donors—to reveal who we are.
3. Borderless Donations: People from all over the world were able to donate effortlessly. Bitcoin doesn’t care about borders or financial systems. It enabled global support without anyone having to deal with international transfer fees or restrictions.
4. Micro-Donations Are Possible: On platforms like GoFundMe, there’s usually a minimum donation amount, and fees can make small contributions impractical. With bitcoin, people could donate as little as 1 satoshi. Every single satoshi mattered, and it all added up to make a huge difference.
This experience makes it clear that bitcoin is REAL MONEY. When it mattered most, bitcoin was the fastest, most accessible, and most efficient way to provide relief.
To everyone who donated: You didn’t just send bitcoin—you sent hope, relief, and a lifeline. My brother is slowly rebuilding his life because of your kindness and generosity.
This isn’t just a story about my brother or me. It’s about the power of decentralized, open, global, community-driven technology to solve real-world problems. Bitcoin and Nostr made what could have been a long, bureaucratic process into something immediate, seamless, and impactful.

Bracing for another wind event this week. Just helped my dad pack up a bunch of stuff from his house and threw it all in the car. Watered around the house and threw debris down the street. The air is pretty bad and the wind is slowly picking up. Hoping for the best 🤞

He’s so incredibly grateful for everyone’s contributions. He’s shocked at how many people have donated - over 200 bitcoiners! I’m teaching him about Bitcoin and how he can use it immediately to get what he needs - food, clothes, and mobility support. Thank god for @npub1m7r…ny2w gift cards!!! His biggest concern right now is going into debt and finding a long term rental as soon as possible. Everyone in my family is focused on getting him, his wife, his mom, and their little dog Mokie a safe place to live. Here’s a picture of the family! Don’t know who you are, but this is just plain mean. How dare you mock those who have just lost literally EVERYTHING. From what you’ve recently posted, it seems like you’re assuming that everyone who lost their homes and businesses in this fire are wealthy. That is not the case for everyone. My brother lived with his mom in that home for 40 years. They are NOT rich at all, extremely normal people who have regular jobs. Their home is not worth millions. They didn’t live in a mansion. My brother has been struggling for years due to his disability after overcoming bone cancer. His home was all he had in a world that was crumbling around him. I’m disgusted by you.

They’ve been checked out since the 100k acre fire in 2018. My family hasn’t been able to get fire insurance at all (except for the state fire insurance which is horrible) - so every time there’s a wind event or a fire nearby, we have to mentally prepare for losing everything. It’s super fucked up and everyone in high risk areas is affected by this.

Most people don’t really understand unless they’ve experienced 50mph ++ winds. A lot of people are trying to blame this person or that corporation for these fires, and yes there is a ton of corruption and mismanagement… but what they don’t understand is that even if you made the BEST decisions to prevent and fight these fires, they will still keep happening and they will still keep getting worse. Nature is incredibly powerful.

A lot of people this week have been asking me why the wildfires in LA are happening and why no one can put them out. The devastation is unlike anything I’ve seen before, and the timing is terrifying.
I’ve lived in LA my entire life, and fire season is as natural to us as palm trees and traffic on the 405. Growing up, I accepted certain realities: evacuating during late summer, keeping “go bags” packed by the door, and watching the news with dread as flames crept closer to my neighborhood. I learned early that nature doesn’t care about your plans or possessions.
In 2018, I watched my entire world burn during the Woolsey Fire. My 70 year old dad illegally crossed the fire line to save our house while we evacuated - a decision that saved our home but one I’ll never forget. He walked 16 miles to get to our house only to discover that we didn’t have any water and the flames were engulfing everything around him. He shoveled dirt on fires near the house for 8 hours straight. I’ll never shake the memory of returning to my neighborhood, seeing nothing but ashes where my neighbors’ homes once stood.
And now, just days ago, my brother, who can’t even walk due to his ongoing disability, lost everything he owned to these January fires. The video you’re watching is what’s left of his house. When he was evacuating, the police told him that he had two choices: run for his life or die. That wasn’t an option for him, but by some miracle, he escaped with his car and is safe. He watched hundreds of people abandon their cars and run to the beach for safety.

The intense heat creates powerful updrafts, surrounding air rushes in like a vacuum, and the cycle feeds itself - creating what scientists call a “firestorm.” It’s like a hurricane made of fire, and it’s virtually impossible to stop once it begins.
We’re watching climate change transform our home in real-time. What used to be a predictable season of natural disaster has become a year-round threat. The scariest part? This may be our new normal.
