For those of us using Nixpkgs master beware that the staging-next branch is scheduled to be merged into the master branch on October 30th.
The staging branches often contain major changes; In my experience, they destabilze the master branch.
I use the Nixpkgs master branch. The strategy I've been using for years is to update Nixpkgs prior to the staging branch merge, and then hold off until the stable release "branch off", which is on November 14th. After that the master branch should be in a good state.

I recently mentioned that Bisq 1 is now marked as broken on Nixpkgs because OpenJDK 11 was removed.
I came up with a solution to get us by until Bisq 2 is feature-complete. The basic idea is this:
1. Create a NixOS-friendly AppImage of Bisq 1.
2. Keep a copy of the AppImage in a safe place.
3. Either use the AppImage, or use a bisq-desktop package with a pinned Nixpkgs, so that you can still access OpenJDK 11.
All of the above can be done with the Nix flake https://github.com/emmanuelrosa/bisq-for-nixos
Note: It's very likely that NixOS users using Bisq will soon discover that it can't be built anymore. Since NixOS doesn't track its users (how dare they!), this build failure is actually the best method we have to communiate that action needs to be taken. I've been emailed in the past by people using Bisq on NixOS, so I'm sure I'll here from them soon :)
I plan to remove the Bisq 1 package from Nixpkgs after the November stable release. I did not expect to have to do this so soon, but here we are.

A new version of Bisq2 came out with some nice features, namely Lightning support and QR code scanning. But regarding the later...
The QR code scanning is a separate bundled Java app with a bunch of binary code. To be precise, there are 76 shared libraries which would have to be patchelf-ed to get QR code scanning to work on NixOS. Either that, or I'll have to run the webcam app in a container. Either way, that's still 76 libraries for which I'd have to identify dependencies, find their matching packages in Nixpkgs, and hope for the best. Not to mention the amount of churn I'd have to put my new-ish SSD through to build, build, and rebuild, until it works. I had plenty of difficulty getting QR code scanning to work on Sparrow, and that was child's play compared to what I'm looking at with Bisq2. About 4 years ago when I packaged Bisq1 I destroyed my SSD in the process, so I'm mindful about these things.
So, you know what I'm thinking...
I have no plans to fix Bisq2 QR code scanning. Sorry, but either it will remain broken or another brave soul can take a stab at it.

I just found out that Bisq2 was released.
You know, the thing with Java applications is that building them from source using Nix is really difficult. During the development of the Nix package for Bisq, I wrote a script which I would run to generate a Nix expression describing the Java packages which needed to be downloaded. Then another Nix expression would create a temporary (Maven) repository containing the downloaded dependencies. THEN, it was possible to build Bisq with Nix.
But I ran into a problem: I needed to include some DAO data and there was no way to get that in a reproduceable way, causing the build to fail when the DAO data was updated by upstream. I did find a solution. It so happened that the upsteam Linux package included the DAO data. I realized that I could get the DAO data from that file, solving the reproduceability problem. But at that point I also realized that if I was going to have to download the upstream linux package to get the data I needed, why not just repackage upstream's package for NixOS? This is the reason why the current Nix Bisq package is a repackaging up upstream's package, rather than a source build.
I don't know why I'm saying all of this, other than perhaps I'm feeling uncharacteristically chatty today.
I'm going to take a look at Bisq2 and create a Nix package for it. I can guarantee that I won't be building it from source ;)

Isn't it weird. though? Usually, a business needs to raise their prices even if they don't want to, and of course customers complain about it. But with Bitcoin, prices need to be lowered overtime, and there's no reason for anyone to complain :)

Regarding Android, if you install the Obtainum APK, you can then easily install the APKs for Phoenix and/or Blixt wallet, both actively-maintained open-source Lightning wallets.
Obtainium checks for updates, so it acts like a personal app store. For what it's worth, I love Obtainium!

Regarding the software dependency hell, the Nix and Guix package managers address the issue. In short, all packages are the output of pure functions (in the functional programming sense, like Haskell) and therefore different versions of the same library can be installed at the same time without conflicts. You can have say libc version X, version Y, and even variants like version X'. Each application will use the correct version.

I think that's perfectly fine. Besides, you can upgrade the M2 drive to 2 TB; It shouldn't cost much.
For your lightning node you'll also need a bitcoin core node. The blockchain is currently about 500GB un-pruned and without the transaction index. I'm not sure whether LND needs the transaction index. I know core lightning doesn't need it, but Eclair does. Even with 1 TB you'd still have enough room.

I just migrated my NixOS system from BTRFS to XFS. I've got all my services up and running and I'm already seeing improvements:
- Reduced memory consuption.
- Reduced file fragmentation; The Gossip client LMDB database went from +6,000 extents down to 2.
- Reduced CPU usage. My CPU fan actually turned off for a while :) It turned back on when I launched Gossip, LOL!
I think my laptop is much happier now.

You can also create custom wrapper/decorator Nix functions to make packages behave differently. For example, I have a wrapper function which applies NVIDIA offload rendering. When I want a package to use offload rendering, I just wrap it in my configuration.nix.
