With smtp hashcash the sender paid for EACH recipien (or receiving server, its been about 15 years since i played with it so memory fades), the message is also extremely ephemeral. In btc the spammer fee is paid once but permanently occupies the blockchain and every node, forever. So the spam narrative seems wrong to me, costs are inverted.
Thats a tax on all participants who wish to support decentalization which is clearly in conflict with Satoshi's comments.
Without being melodramatic ive been musing we end up with Solana size nodes. Even if that was only 20% true it has a cooing effect on decentralization.

apologies for the confusion: my comment was about China's dependency on AU for iron ore. Via Belt and Road they now have initiatives like Simandou project in Guinea.
Yes AUDUSD got a bit of a bounce over the last week, but the last 6months has been brutal (AUDEUR and USD) based on the first two reasons I mentioned.

It will be interesting to see how gov accepts the kyc for this.
The existing socials are vertically integrated whereas nostr identity, pseudonymity, anonymity is the decoupled rails on which as app sits. If an app getting a login/register from an au IP address just asks, "pls confirm you are over 16" then app has done its job. By definition a Nostr identity has no kyc.

was clicking around to see who I could follow. I think I was in one of the default amethyst channels, clicked on a user and it was in their threads. I'm neither a prude or making a big deal of it, just have been in security since before Bill said https://www.theregister.com/2004/01/26/well_kill_spam_in_two/ so I know any immunity this protocol has today is a result of its small footprint.
If there are any good threads on bot / troll resistance please point me at them. It strikes me that a creation of a pub/priv key access to relays could pay some sats first time as a disincentive to floods of bots. (bitcoins invention was related to an PoW antispam technology called hashcash, so the similarities and potential is tantalizing).

Thanks. I spent a bit of time on this yesterday and it's similar (but deeper) to Oslo freedom conf fireside. There is also this good interview with @nprofile…3q2p which gives a bit of tech comparison.
All the Blue sky hate in this thread seems to a result of massive growth events they weren't ready for. E.g Bluesky have infra for pluggable (ala carte) moderation/filter but only one method exists at the moment. So rock<==>hard place.
I like Nostr protocol but I doubt I personally would be immune to the ethical dillemmas that come with no moderation or at the very least default "protective" filtering for children. I was in Amethyst only 15 mins before I was privileged to get a video of some dude wanking. This is with a tiny user base, imagine if the post election X bump here was a tsunami.
