While doing his chemo my big brother and his girlfriend met a truly wonderful French lady sitting next to them. She has terminal cancer but comes in once a week for chemo. The three of them spoke for hours and while he slept she wrote him a letter.
I only know a few things about her. She rides bikes without helmets, travels the world with her husband and ‘doesn’t let fear eat her soul’. She loves to live. I can’t share the letter because it’s so personal it feels wrong, but I can say that she addressed it to ‘the two love birds in the chemo suit’. When I read the letter I almost cried. I wish I could have shown you. She gave some very beautiful advice.
She thanked them for making the day bearable, and I want to thank her for making my brothers first day go by so quickly. People like her are extraordinary. I hope to meet her soon.

Big brother starts his chemo the week after next, but he’s going to be absolutely fine ❤️‍🔥 I admit I’m scared to see him that way, but he’s the strongest human I know. Then when he’s recovered we can start planning the sibling adventure time trip to Sri Lanka. I’ll get to be a part of the boys funny holiday stories. I can be all ‘Yepp, I was there when the monkey stole his shoes on the beach and we got finessed into buying a Coca-Cola for £30 cos neither of us speak Sinhalese. Yes, I hung out of the train from Kandy to Ella (not the whole time though) and then did some sweet meditation with Buddha in the mountains.’

I like the idea of living in a different country every few years, I know it sounds crazy and there’s probably a million big and small details that would make it impossible, but I love that Vanessa and Will bring their son when they travel - travelling is such a beautiful way of teaching your kid about the world, all types of people, countries and how they operate. Way more interesting than sitting in a classroom looking at pictures of the world on a board during history and geography. Julian Green has taught me that before you can truly know a city you must get bored in it.
