Animated short film by legendary controversial animator Ralph Bakshi who is known for his animated projects such as the 1960s Terrytoons, Fritz the Cat, Coonskin, American Pop, Cool World, Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures and his guest appearance on Ren & Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon. The Cigarette and the Weed served as Bakshi's attempt to have a cartoon shown before a motion picture in movie theaters.
The short is about three minutes long and tells the story of a weed growing on a street corner and a discarded cigarette butt that rolls up to the weed. The two converse before the cigarette rolls into a puddle and is extinguished.[1]
Availability
The short has been screened at multiple film festivals[2], and a brief, audioless clip of it was featured in the 1982 film Halloween III: Season of the Witch.[3] On February 25, 2025, Bakshi himself released the entire short on his Twitter.

It's a new threat to the town and to Dino's position as mayor.

Somewhere in Northern Russia in a small Russian Orthodox monastery lives an unusual man whose bizarre conduct confuses his fellow monks, while others who visit the island believe that the man has the power to heal, exorcise demons and foretell the future.
"The Island" is a 2006 Russian biographical film about a 20th century Eastern Orthodox monk. Pyotr Mamonov, who plays the lead character, formerly a rock musician in the USSR, converted to Eastern Orthodoxy in the 1990s and lives now in an isolated village. Film director Pavel Lungin said about him that "to a large extent, he played himself." Mamonov was first very hesitant to play in the film, but then was urged by his confessor to play the character. After the filming, one of the movie crew staff decided to stay on the island and live there as a hermit.

On the Air is an American television sitcom created by Mark Frost and David Lynch. It was broadcast from June 20 to July 4, 1992 on the American Broadcasting Company (ABC). The series follows the staff of a fictional 1950s television network, Zoblotnick Broadcasting Company (ZBC), as they produce a live variety program called The Lester Guy Show—often with disastrous results. On the Air was produced by Lynch/Frost Productions and followed Lynch and Frost's previous series, Twin Peaks. In the United States only three of the seven filmed episodes were aired, but the first and only season was broadcast in its entirety in the United Kingdom and several other European countries.
Discussing the show, Lynch said that "Absurdity is what I like most in life, and there’s humor in struggling in ignorance. If you saw a man repeatedly running into a wall until he was a bloody pulp, after a while it would make you laugh because it becomes absurd. But I don’t just find humor in unhappiness – I find it extremely heroic the way people forge on despite the despair they often feel."

Nightbreed is a 1990 American dark fantasy horror film written and directed by Clive Barker, based on his 1988 novella Cabal. It stars Craig Sheffer, Anne Bobby, David Cronenberg, Charles Haid, Hugh Quarshie, and Doug Bradley. The film follows an unstable mental patient named Aaron Boone who is falsely led to believe by his doctor that he is a serial killer. Tracked down by the police, his doctor, and his girlfriend Lori, Boone eventually finds refuge in an abandoned cemetery called Midian among a tribe of monsters and outcasts known as the "Nightbreed" who hide from humanity.
At the time of its release, the film was a commercial and critical failure. In 2011 Russell Cherrington, Senior Lecturer in Film & Video Production at the University of Derby and long-time friend of Clive’s, watched the DVDs of the workprint tapes and saw the potential in the material for an ambitious project. After asking for a copy, Russell decided to use that newfound video footage and a copy of the early 2nd draft of the Nightbreed script to create a composite cut of the movie, representing what might have been Clive’s original vision, assisted by Final Cut Editor Jimmi Johnson. This version eventually became known as the Cabal Cut, a constantly evolving and galvanizing project, going through as many as 8 different versions, all different as the cut was tweaked here and there for pace with some feedback from Clive Barker himself regarding where some sections should go. According to Russell, when Clive saw this cut, he teared up.

A rare Q&A session with Orson Welles, which Welles had originally intended to be part of a film essay on the making of The Trial (1962) similar to 'Filming Othello', but never got around to editing or finishing it. The raw footage was recovered from his estate and put together after his death in this uncut question-and-answer session. There are frequent breaks in the video due to the film cartridge running out every 10 minutes during the shoot and other technical difficulties, being that he shot it on no budget. The cartridge also runs out at the end of the video, giving it a feeling of incompleteness. Only one side of the speaker functions.

Burroughs' technique of cut-ups, a literary technique whereupon a text’s sentences or words are cut up and later randomly re-hashed into a new text. Through “found and original footage of discos and raves across Britain during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s” he “chronicle[s] the rites of passage experienced by successive generations of British (sub)urban youth”.
Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore patches up several videos of young people dancing, singing and partying. It starts with the disco scene of the 1970s, touches upon the Northern soul of the late 1970s and early 1980s and climaxes with the rave scene of the 1990s. One underlying soundtrack plays during the whole video, giving a sense of unity and narrative to the video. At one point an animated element - a bird tattoo image - appears as if released from the hand of a dancer, then carried into the next shot finds its place on the arm of another of the film's nightclubbing subjects. Some dance moves are played on loop for a few seconds, some are played in slow motion. Writing about Leckey’s first few video pieces, which in addition to Fiorucci… include We Are (Untitled) (2000) and Parade (2003), the art critic Catherine Wood said that they “represent the human subject striving to spread itself out into a reduced dimensionality. Richard Metzger: 'From early 1997 to sometime mid-1999 I had a talkshow called The Infinity Factory that was produced at Pseudo.com (founded by Josh Harris of 'We Live in Public' fame), the increasingly legendary “Internet TV Network,” creative madhouse and party central of downtown New York during the high-flying Silicon Alley dotcom years.
The Infinity Factory was taped every Sunday evening at 8pm with a few exceptions. It was produced by Vanessa Weinberg who also DJ’d and mixed the show live. Vanessa was extraordinarily in tune with how the conversations were flowing and added an intricate bed of trippy music, samples and sound loops under what were often extremely psychedelic conversations to begin with—like this episode, with Robert Anton Wilson and Genesis P-Orridge. This show dates, I think, from Fall of 1997. When it was originally netcast it was when most people still had 56k modems and the video quality was fairly awful. Don’t get me wrong, it was pretty cool to be able to do something like this back then and there was a real “pirate radio” aspect to it as well that greatly appealed to me, but in truth it looked more like flickery animation than it did actual video. And it was the size of a postage stamp. There were probably well over 100 shows, each of them around 50 minutes, but I really can’t say for sure how many there were. Most of them are probably lost.'
