a little tl;dr on taproot, segwit and ordinals
taproot is a type of HD key scheme where you have the parent key and then a "tweak" value.
a simple taproot key can have no tweak, and its derived private key is the hash of the original private key, and the public key is derived from that.
a taproot key with a tweak is where you concatenate the private key with an arbitrary string of bytes, in a similar way as a HD key derivation, but of course it can be anything, even the binary bytes of a compiled ethereum solidity script.
it is not material to bitcoin what you used in the tweak, it does not interpret it.
it is not material to bitcoin that there is any tweak at all, this is all inside the key generation and derivation process.
it took me a while to wrap my head around it, because in the code it seems like all this derivation is important, but it is not.
the receiver must have the private key and the "tweak" values in order to spend the received sats.
the derived private key that generated the address is not normally stored in the algorithms, but it could be.
TAPROOT IS JUST A SCHNORR SIGNATURE BASED KEY.
segwit, on the other hand, the cryptography of it is not so important to how it works as the fact that it allows you to make transactions with extremely large amounts of arbitrary data, after opcodes like OP_RETURN.
until 2021, nobody really seriously exploited this for anything much larger than about 20kb. then someone dumped a transaction using segwit with over 30kb of data in it, some 999 signatures or something, and lightning was broken temporarily because BTCD code had put a limit, that is not specified in the segwit BIP, as a protection against resource exhaustion attacks.
then the light dawned to the shitcoiner community that they could drive up bitcoain fees and clog the chain by publishing huge transactions, so tehy cooked up scamms like Ordinals, to make their justification for making transactions with ginormous amounts of data in them, and the miners of course were ok with this because during the bear markets tx volumes are thinner and the block rewards are thus lower.
shitcoiners and miners are who benefit from segwit.
segwit was not essential for Lightning. it just made it a bit more secure.
at the time, Schnorr signatures were an option that was discussed, but it was rejected.
this was the wrong decision, obviously.
i don't know how bitcoin is going to recover from the spamfest that ordinals created, but please....
it's not taproot that enabled ordinals, it was segwit.

i didn't want the changes. i was against segwit fwiw. as a developer, i hate how complicated the whole thing has got.
the biggest problem with it is that segwit doesn't set a limit on how much witness a transaction can use. in theory, one can jam one transaction into one block, if one has the several bitcoin fee required to displace all competing tx's.
the problem doesn't really hurt miners, so we can't find a solution that benefits them and prevents the spam. users could do things to reduce it, but at best they would only slow the ingress of these garbage transactions to the nodes feeding miners block templates.
the pandora's box is already open now, and lightning is still in beta and shit is just gonna be messy for a while.
money touches everyone's life, so it's an unfortunate consequence that it also is of far greater interest to psychopaths wanting to indulge themselves in ill gotten wealth for the various services it provides, that the fight is extra intense.

i think penultimately downloading content will need this too. requesting content from relays can become a DoS vector.
it was my first reaction to the whole thing in the first place "spam party"...
there is people working on ways to do this on a fully trustless basis over LN but i am betting on my own solution, which is indra, which enables paywalling for in- and out-bound traffic into the network, and uses microtransactions and tiny prepaid sessions. the side benefit of indra is privacy, so i think that since privacy helps security it has the best cost/benefit ratio.
just wish i could dedicate the time and effort to work on it, and that probably means courting investors first of all, neither of which i have as a luxury right now.

PoW for antispam is gonna be useless if that PoW has an ASIC for it.
i've studied the subject extensively and the only time i saw an example of PoW that was remotely viable it was bound to creating commitments for spends of coins for a duration of time (it was an eth fork) and the number of solutions allowed per account per minimum amount was pretty small. making other accounts of course you could 'stake' on more but yeah, point being that it depended on real economic limitations, so to speak.
as i see it, nostr's going to have a spam problem without the notion of a pay-per-byte model for posting, in the long run. we just haven't seen enough adoption to lead to that.
which is also why the "adoption at any cost" types should be eyed with suspicion since we aren't ready. but hey, it's the endless war between marketing and dev right?

so, i'm almost finished writing a Dockerfile that builds strfry within an arch container.
it just bombed out after 444 seconds (over 7 minutes) to report to me that i failed to put some retarded PERL thing into the image.
yes i'm gonna go check the PKGBUILD now, i've obviously omitted some yet another critical perl thing that nothing up to this point in the build flagged as a problem for being absent.
if you build C++ software, and don't provide a dockerfile that spits out a binary, you are going to hell. straight to hell.
i'm only doing this because i know that the majority of people who see this stuff are oblivious wokesters whose mind is in some la la land where the world is full of overpaid developers who can afford the latest intel processor and 5ghz 50 channel memory chips, and like to have sword fights in their lab with their coworkers because "compiling".

i just discovered that installing the docker desktop app places things in a folder ~/.docker that causes commands invoking docker to look there for the docker socket.
docker: Cannot connect to the Docker daemon at unix:///home/me/.docker/desktop/docker.sock. Is the docker daemon running?.
of course, the socket is /var/run/docker.sock for a standard system installation.

and it then tries to connect to the socket in /var/run instead.

the major nostr clients are favouring and promoting certain accounts.
these accounts become more followed and engaged with
these accounts then become "popular" and infect everyones feed with noise.
the use of trending algorithms is inducing other clients to favour the ones being favoured by other clients.
this is a dark pattern that is the root of how social media is orchestrated to propagate an agenda.
i'm purging my follows of those who frequently engage with these popular accounts, and focusing on building my network at the edges where i'm more likely to find original and valuable and authentic users.
scammers are attaching themselves to these "popular" accounts as well, and the noise from them is also increasing.
there is a problem brewing in nostr that is going to be very hard to avoid without intense vigilance.
it will just be virtually another twitter in 6 months time the way things are going.

just the configuration system will have you tearing your hair out. one of the first things i did when I built https://github.com/p9c/p9 out of it was rip out the entire config and cli args parsing system.
it doesn't work. at all. changing things in configuration file, doesn't work. i just made a little patch the other day to use go 1.16 embed library to put the default configuration file in there so it writes it, and lo and behold, it writes it every time, and i spent 3 hours still not being able to figure out which code was calling the rewrite. i gave up on it.
i have several pending PRs on both btcd and lnd that i juts gave up on in disgust because i kept on having to merge back new changes into it and they still never did anything.
the behaviour of the project devs is really weird, idk wtf is going on out there, but it seems off.
i've basically moved towards taking pieces of it apart that will never get changed, probably, and i use them in my own code because the btcsuite/lightningnetwork codebases vomit on you if you touch anything.

i know that codebase, and the associated btcd codebase very intimately.
it is like being in the room where the shit is hitting the fan trying to do anything with it. i mean literally, it will raise your blood pressure.
i wish i could clean it up because whoever is paying for its maintenance clearly is being ripped off, or not paying enough.
also, taproot is basically just a mechanism for addressing contract addresses. you have the root, which is a regular segwit address, and then you can tap into that with basically infinite sub-addresses.
some of the terminology and design and explanations of the things really leave something to be desired.

building bitcoin core, in comparison, is 15-60 minutes depending on how much of the preparation work and how fast your internet connection is to download over half a gigabyte of material to be able to do it.
btcd repository is 45mb in size, go compiler is 120mb.
not only that, but half the lightning network runs off btcd via lnd.
yet everyone is swallowing this hooey that bitcoin core is the canonical version.
it's a close competitor to node_modules for its mass.
sure, you can nit pick and point out that btcd doesn't have a GUI on it but seriously, um. yeah. btcd + zap wallet gives you all that plus lightning.
(btw, i helped fix zap so it could be used with your own btcd, the configuration wasn't persisting when i tried it and they fixed it days later).
jack mallers and several other bitcoin devs will tell you that you can do way more with Go than you can with this other 50 different tools garbage.

dairy allergies - as in lactose intolerance or A1 protein?
lactose intolerance is a lot less common than you'd think, and problems with A1 protein are usually in addition to other immune irritants, and switching to A2 (jersey) or goat or sheep milk often helps if the problem is the specific type of casein protein.
i also have discovered that drinking a lot of cows milk means you really need to get more fibre. goat milk has a lot of fibre (and vitamin C) but even still, fibrous fruit is a good addition to deal with it. i have to be very careful around seed fibre sources, if the fibre mass glues up on top of my half wisdom tooth it triggers a reaction that causes swelling and pain in the tooth and generally in my mouth.
one of my mother's siblings nearly died as an infant due to A1 allergy, it caused him to have severe brain swelling, and goat milk saved his life, though sadly, his brain was already damaged.
i'm looking at what else might be causing my allergy before i take milk out of the equation because of how it is improving my skin and muscle growth rates. if i get water retention, that only ensures i have a motivation to get out and do a really good hard walk. if it's an elimination issue, then again, the walking is essential to promoting that process and getting to the end of it.
there is so many allergens in the food supply now that an elimination program is the only way to really get to the bottom of it.
corn seems to be a big one, i can smell the traces of the oils everywhere in other things, in meats, in milk.
anyhow, yeah, you really should be drinking milk if it does you good. the more healthy you are the better for your family, it's not greed, it's need.

it's a meme that is rising in these circles, and the more who bite the bullet and get clean and tell their stories and prove the benefit in their work is going to make it grow and grow.
the only thing i would add is that milk is really really really good. fresher the better. i am by necessity needing to do a lot of long walks up and down steep slopes, and so i've also started to work out, and i have seriously never been this buffed, i'm regaining my soft skin.
i am still suffering some kind of immune/infection issue though. a rash that has broken out primarily on my feet where a lot of walking led to abrasions in the knuckles of my toes. it's a rash i've had before at various times, and i can't tell exactly what causes it, but my suspicion is that it is something to do with bacteria, it seems to specifically affect my pores, and forms red bumps in a broad area especially near joints, and before this started, at first there was straight up blisters, and on and off especially my legs have had water retention.
i'm pretty sure that this is in fact the death of massive amounts of bad things that have been living in my blood.
just prior to this all starting, i did a weekend of intensive coffee drinking, maybe 6 or 7 a day for 4 days in a row, hardly slept. caffeine metabolises primarily into uric acid, and it is difficult for the kidneys to eliminate it, and previously i had a condition related to this called gout, which had some features in common, flaring up mainly in my feet, but also knees, hands and elbows. i'm pretty sure it's just the natural process of accumulating microcrystalline uric acid and the gradual elimination. the fine capillaries get blocked up for a time and the blood slows and the color darkens because of the low oxygen levels in these areas.
very likely this makes the areas start to directly send garbage out through the skin, and thus through the pores, where the stomata are then swelling up with gunk that is not flowing out well.
i'm just keeping up the water and whenever the condition gets bloaty and a bit painful I put on my shoes and really go hard with a walk. out the back of my place there is a road that climbs to a height of about 800 feet high or so, in a space of about 2 miles. this walk really gets the blood pumping, and afterwards, my fluid retention abates substantially.
another thing that I think helps is having a good soak every day in sea water. the brine draws out the water under the skin (osmosis) which carries some of the garbage with it.
i don't know how long this process will take but i am quite certain it's not an allergy, but rather the drawn out process of the consequences of so much caffeine in my blood. i know for sure it's related to my blood viscosity because concurrently my blood pressure is up, not severe, like it was before, but still bad.
because the main path of elimination here seems to be via the skin, and lymphatic system, drinking lots of water and driving the lymphatic pumps with walking are the best ways to deal with it.
anyhow, bravo! most here are still chugging coffee, drinking beer, and wishing they could be free. they will be encouraged by our progress.

being completely drug free is a gift that just keeps on giving.
i am starting to be able to organise my work, achieve things, schedule my time better... 100% if you have AD/HD, you need to stay tf away from caffeine, alcohol and nicotine.
all three of them make attention deficit worse. caffeine radically increases anxiety and impulsivity. nicotine shortens your flow period down to about half an hour at best.
i think overall, caffeine is the one that diminishes attention span the most, and the most subtly.
every time i watch people #coffeestr posting i feel sad for them that they think this stuff makes them function better.
maybe, in an emergency, when i have to be awake at normal sleep hours, once in a year, to, for example, help keep someone alive until they can get to acute care at the hospital, but otherwise, the shit just makes you anxious, ruins your concentration and sleep, and long term, lowers your blood pH, which has a net result of reducing oxygen carrying capacity, increasing the chances of embolisms, spider veins, and all the fun stuff like strokes and heart attacks.
fundamental to the swinging sixties, rock and roll, speed and coke memes is the idea that humans, after 300,000 years as a species, and millions of years of animal evolution, has suddenly made a mistake and we need to be hooked up to constant supply of caffeine to do things that we used to be able to do at least 2x as much, 2x as long, and 2x as hard.
you just have to go out and see some of the crazy stuff that people built 400 years ago and ask yourself "did they need coffee for this?" the answer is "there was no coffee you numbskull".
you also have to ask yourself, if the american indians only smoked tobacco when there was a spat going on between two families, or two tribes, or two braves, whether smoking tobacco is going to help your ability to assert yourself.
and alcohol - the only reason they invented beer was as a way to get hydrated while the water supply was terrible. said beer was only like 1-1.5% and you basically can't get drunk on it before you can't put any more in your gut. similarly, wine brewed up to about 3%, owing to how rich in sugars it is, you aren't gonna put away enough of that to get drunk either.
it used to be a sign of poor character, in all of the cultures where these drugs were first consumed, to use them on a daily basis to the point of noticable physical effects.
if you want to have any success in your life, you can gain a good 20-30% more out of yourself just by ditching these drugs.
don't be stupid like me and wait until they are nearly killing you to realise you have to stop.

i never heard of librewolf... trying it out, first thing, it takes forever to start because it wants gnome authentication, second thing it doesn't integrate with keepassxc and no way i'm keeping my passwords offsite with bitwarden.
happy to hear better advice, i need to get to my morning swim.

it's actually not that difficult if you are determined to dig into your phone's settings to disable the carrier settings and emergency alert settings. but there's about 10 separate modules that have to be disabled or they will turn it back on. 'optional'.

I'm taking the reverse approach because I think actually, like computer programming languages, less is better. Milk, pure, full fat, and pure full fat chocolate, and fibre-rich fruit, apples, oranges, etc.
It's not only helping my brain it's feeding my body in a way that I haven't ever experienced.
Adding stuff to "improve" function is marketing, because most of the time actually the things either are suppressing counter-systems, or unbalancing your nutrient profile.

I doubt that a socialist government would not take over the mint. Lenin famously said that a socialist system must debase the money to deflect the people's attention towards the State.
Fiat money is just corporate vouchers. That's also why the laws of these modern governments, which are all fundamentally socialist, are called "statutes" which is the legal term for rules of a corporation, that apply to its employees.

Socialists who "support bitcoin" are extremely suspect IMO. Socialism's central pillar is the abolition of money and replacing it with fiat. As in, orders from the - whatever variety is preferred, a council, a union, a computer model, that replaces the function of money as a regulator of production.
