Einstein attempted to unify gravity with quantum physics and black hole singularities using frameworks that were continuous.
He never attempted any discrete frameworks, but the modern world has become obsessed with discrete frameworks like LQG and string theory. Quantum physics itself is discrete, hence the word quanta — meaning discrete quantities.
It’s hard to think spacetime is continuous if quantum physics is discrete, but Einstein kept believing a way would emerge that maintained space-time as a continuum.

Loop quantum gravity breaks one of Einstein’s most important rules: the spacetime fabric must be continuous.
Loop quantum gravity is discrete, but quantum physics itself is discrete too — hence its incompatibility with spacetime.
We’ll see if Einstein was right about the continous nature of spacetime, or if discrete theories like LQG win out… but I’m betting on Einstein. 😎🍻

Always loved that intro too. Ironically it’s what made me take him more seriously — because I could tell he really just wanted to show me something, to share it, rather than convert me to a specific ideology.
I remember trying to explain this as a speech in my communications class around my first semester of college. She gave me a B+, just didn’t quite understand the premises. Then I dropped out. Grades and the opinions of teachers are so subjective, even most of the physicists and computer scientists are biased in what they teach or admire. So much more fun to explore with the internet, it’s like the universe is in your palm.

The only thing I’m the king of is missing deadlines. 😂
It’s already working well, but we need to finish the rest of the GitHub app and review some of the DHT code again. I’m impressed with the grit of our team.
Let’s see how long it takes them. All I know is… 2025 will be the accumulation of all the work from the past two years, finally coming to fruition.

What you’re complaining about is literally its biggest feature…
libp2p gives you the option to select almost any transport and handshake from a config. It’s modular and flexible. Once it’s setup, you have a world of options at your fingertips. 🌎

TLDR:
• IPFS/IPNS = 💩 (Nostr replaces)
• Libp2p = 👍 (ignore their pubsub options, use their transports and escape from CAs with high speeds from QUIC)
• Merkle Trees = 👍 (chunking standard)

You can choose your handshake settings. If using QUIC it doesn’t use noise by default since QUIC has encryption by default, but if you’re using websockets and have noise enabled then it will use noise.

By that I mean IPFS is an over-complicated mess and overly relies on P2P tactics for data storage/serving… user-server model of nostr is key.
Although, libp2p standalone without IPFS is quite nice. Just like how Merkle Trees without IPFS is nice. Took the good pieces. 🧩

Throwing IPFS and libp2p in the same basket is a mistake I think. I was hesitant too, but it’s quite developed. Libp2p documentation is decent, especially with AI to help. Try this link, it helped us at the start. https://proto.school/introduction-to-libp2p/
We don’t use a lot of the things in libp2p, but having multiplexing & QUIC with no certificate authorities is quite nice. I think it’s wise to pick out the pieces that work and leave the junk behind.

Ugh beware instagram science. Thought I had this mixed up but posted it anyway.
To clarify, mercury’s precession can be viewed during normal times.
But the bending of light was much easier to see during a solar eclipse because it blocked all the other light from the sun… Einstein predicted (secondarily to mercury’s precession) that light would bend if traveling past a planet with a lot of gravity (space curvature around it), since spacetime is the “road” light travels on.

It’s a desktop app for decentralized GitHub on Nostr. The amount of data is non-trivial in size (sometimes). Repos can be large. This is why we’re using merkle tree chunking for large files as well. I want the reduced RTT.

We are indeed fetching a bunch of resources from the same server across different streams.
Libp2p allows us to use multiplexing so we can open as many bi-directional streams as we want over a single connection, it's awesome. We use it for Airlock (permission system for the decentralized GitHub).
I understand your point about the OS handling TCP instead of each app handling networking individually, which does make a lot of sense. I wish there were a plug-and-play TCP+TPO+Noise library that could handle multiplexing! Would be a nice addition to include in libp2p.

You could theoretically tailor TCP + TFO + Noise to achieve 1 RTT, but that sounds like a headache to implement. If any pre-made libraries are available with that setup, drop a link! 🔗
While it’s true that QUIC’s 0-RTT mode isn’t widely used due to replay attack risks, libp2p QUIC achieves 1 RTT with encryption, which is still faster than typical WebSockets over TLS (3 RTT).
What’s neat is that libp2p exchanges peer IDs during the QUIC handshake, meaning MITM attacks are mitigated if you’ve already retrieved the relay’s key from a trusted profile.
Why do you dislike QUIC/TLS so much if it’s free of CAs? How does it compare to TCP+TFO+Noise?

True, it’s not any more compatible if browsers don’t adopt it — perhaps just easier to implement?
I imagine it will be easier for new app developers to integrate basic TLS with key support than setup noise or libp2p (so their apps connect to @npub1h0r…fv0g nostr relays).
Still going to offer libp2p QUIC support for apps that want to go the extra mile (TLS is built-in without CAs).

I’m currently revising it. I think I was on the right track conceptually but not mathematically, once again… I didn’t create a truly unified field equation — which is the foundation that all four forces must sprout from. 🌱 Maybe one day it’ll unfold… 🏵️
