In Spanish, we have a saying: "Cuando el río suena, es porque piedras trae," which is similar to "Where there's smoke, there's fire."
I’m not all in on BTC, not because I don’t want to, but because I don’t have much to invest in it currently. However, I do my part with what I can.
Regarding the Ross Ulbricht case, I tried to inform myself as much as possible, and this episode of @nprofile…vvhl was really helpful.
Now, with the U.S. starting this national reserve of seized assets, like the ones from Ross, and considering the very high likelihood that his case is, at the very least, partially framed in many areas, national powers, corporate power, etc. , all seeking a piece or control over BTC. In, well, questionable ways (like a president and his wife realizing just unfounded crypto trash!?). It all just keeps pointing to positive trends regarding the seriousness of its relevance.
The timing, with possible wars, is prime time for BTC’s value to rise.
The U.S. government appeals to populism, nationalism, and the constant new attempts to regain relevance.
Very interesting times, and I am amazed at the role Bitcoin will play in the coming years ahead of us.
I am thankful for Nostr, which continues to provide more and more insight to sideliners like me, who are just absorbing as much knowledge as we can while we consider our best way forward.

100% true!! Even now that's a good reminder, tool sickness is real haha.
We started with a $400 contractor saw. before upgrading we bought a planer and jointer, didn't expend more than $2000 on those last two combined and make over $200K easily in the spam of two years.
Of course we wanted the better set up and we did bought it eventually. Was way nicer.
My rule, buy the best tool you can afford at the moment that will last you the longer.

depending on their introduction more or less people will engage.
I did use primal at the start and got many people saying hi.
but the trending. which currently I do not find that helpful, at the time it was very helpful to follow others. So that is a good one for that purpose.

A nation that has lost its way many many decades ago.
Sad.
It has pivoted from left to right and right to left so many times, that has forgotten that there is actual right and wrong.
You do not deal "cards" with the wrong, you do not call evil, good. Neither good, evil.
You stand by your principle and pay a dam dear price for it. But you do it because it's the right thing to do.
There is always opportunity for diplomacy, and there is always the fork in the road when diplomacy is dressed in a web of lies, to make it more appealing to the masses.
When the masses have bought into that narrative and are incapable of calling out bad behavior, lies, and falsehood. But just praise equally well and honorable executed actions, the same as untruthful founded ones, just the same because that's what their "party" is doing...or that's "the best for MY country". That is the moment you know your party has become another cult.
Then morals have been broken.
Then the line that divided good from evil in our hearts is blurred, that line is in every heart, and is a very thin one.
Dark times ahead....but also if you hold faith in Christ, you know the end of the story, you also know your alliance is with the ONE man sitting on the throne, with your one and ONLY citizenship in heaven. Yes this is definitely a pro and not a con.
Specially if it's a anonymous acct.
I have seen some real identity ones, that granted they fair and square loose their keys because poor management , start over. It's not ideal, but it's better than nothing, or trusting another big platform.
I just think the problem of impersonation by bigger players with cyber skills taking over real identity accts is a real one that, if solved, will give even more of an edge to nostr. Still what you say remains an option, no body is limiting me to create some other back up accts in case main one get hacked.

I am fully sold in nostr. BUT, people are acting like you can't loose your identity and being hijacked...I have zero ability to fully control Internet providers, clients and dns's...there is no way to know if you have a keyboard logger, or a client miss use your nsecs.
I think we do need to do our best to keep keys secure, and plenty of cold backups. I am super confident on mine.
But we need a way to burn original nsec amd replace with some sort of backup and redundancy.
The whole idea of nostr being your identity and reputation falls apart when you actually are hijacked by nation state agency or something and your digital identity(nsec) taken from you. You always havr a way with your real physical identity to be in one place at a time and provee who you are. Up to this time there are no clones, until then. The digital and physical identity are still distance apart from a security stand point.
I will love to see nostr trying to find a way give key users a way to reclaim digital identity (ay least a limited amount of burner keys).
People always dismiss this worry as "they just don't know how to protect their keys" but the cybersecurity aspect and compromise current Internet infrastructure is beyond most people.
My two cents 😅😅. Love the work you are doing!

@npub1lrn…qnw5 my ideal scenario is that when you create your nsec, you are give lets say 5 more. in order to use any of the remaining 4 you need to burn the other one and input the one that are of have being burned.
e.g.
some one hack me and stole my nsec from my vault, took my hard note pad, or a client fail...I can input nsec#1 + nsec#2 and from that point on nsec#1 is not. usable any more... not sure how possible is that...but it will be nice.

Just staring Hack The Box cyber courses... out of the bat the note taking apps was among first topic.
Zero experience with them all, but just as with passwords manager and Keeypass (old and established), I went with Cherry Tree, does not look appealing at all, but obsidian gave me the feeling that was one way street if I go for it...funny to read this now.
Do you use it for development or something else? any feedback regarding CherryTree is appreciated as I am on day 1 of using it and can change for sure.

My only concern is not loosing followers (which are almost none 😅) or whatever, is government or malicious actors impersonation. Of course the likelihood of me being a target is close to zero.
Most if us when we started the nostr journey we did it through a device or machine that likely could be compromise, and then again not all clients do best practices with nsec input.
I think is fair to say that there is potential for keys to be compromise from day 1. I am sure of my key back up and have no fear of loosing them, but if tomorrow they come after my faith or whatever belive I do fear impersonation. As I have seen in middle east, Venezuela, etc...I have no reason to belive any system I use is completely out of grab.
The internet is broken at a fundamental level starting with Domain providers and Internet providers.
I think a system with back up keys, to burn the original after a malicious attack could be beneficial, 100% on board on people learning to protect their keys, but this would make nostr even more censorship resistance....not sure if this is key rotation or not, just a thought.

About the same time I stated usimg Qubes OS, bassically multiple Qubes/VMs to isolate your life un segments..love it. Too much resources demand in my laptop, and feel I was dependent on the system for security and was missimg a leanring opportunity...now the OP comment about every digital box becoming open, a good reminder for sure for a normal, non tech user like me.
Love the gospel, opsec, and open source references! ha!

I have question GM since the beginning. BUT, it has made me think about the contrast of legacy social media (self centered and negativity) vs a community that at least say GM....
So have forced my self, and now for the most part I find more value than not.
On the other hand, I would prefer to see a more healthy balance of content. We need more diverse and more global content. Morning notes are maybe a good vehicle to give news, thoughts and other things....so not a simple Gm maybe is the key.

So for example, the relay of Bitvora Haven by @npub1utx…50e8, it includes a Blossom Server for media. In this case, or in the case that you have a dedicated media server separate from the relay, the storage capacity will increase drastically right? Of course, depending on how much media you have.

#asknostr Relays, clients, etc where are they being hosted? Aws, Google, etc?
As a user I understand the decentralized strategy through relays and divers clients options.
But as developers (which I am not) , where are they storing their app codes and where are the relays storing the data. For the most part, as I assuming most big relays and clients are not using home servers.
So if I want to deploy let's say a Haven relay, not from my home network, what cloud provider, would you recommend me?
Hope there is logic in my questio. If not I welcome wisdom.

Real problem for sure. Goes both ways, exploitation for one side and then a cultural mindset that keep them in that place, foster by politics....and sadly politics are a reflection of the people.
Living here in the US, born and raise in LATAM, and now seen that when that nationalism spirit rise, the desire for fair and righteous towards "third world countries " mostly, vanish for citizens.
As long as its for "national interest",
As long as they can control and influence,
The real development is not even on the table discussion.
I am super happy to see the exceptions, which there are few, that leave that dependency mindset and go on actually building a powerhouse themselves.
We need in general, all, no exception, to be more empathetic towards one another.

Thanks for the info! No refund needed and I will sign up to give it a try and see. I have a particular use case in mind for the relays and because I want to make sure it's sustainable, I need to be careful with my set up and budget from the beginning.
I don't loose nothing giving it a try, best case scenario it does work for me, worst I would have support at least for a bit the project! which I think it's an awesome and needed one.

I saw the entire presentation on YouTube...the whole project and design it's awesome!! Know this kind of projects are hard to bootstrap, but your use case and most importantly the easy to use UI looks like a game changer. Hope you are able to build it and hopefully make a good business out of it too so you can sustain it.

Today is day 60 of using Qubes OS, and I really like it. I'm using it on my laptop as my daily driver, but my laptop has a sad 8GB of soldered RAM. Qubes OS is resource-hungry, so I can only run one or two qubes, and not very efficiently at all.
I'm extremely hesitant to install Qubes on my desktop, which is much more powerful, because of all the internal PCI configuration Qubes does. I'm sure I'll either lose access to my keyboard or graphics.
Any suggestions for alternatives? I want the same OS for both my desktop and laptop. I'm thinking of Pop!_OS. Any user feedback?
I'm trying to improve my privacy and learn more about Linux. I used Ubuntu for three years prior to this.

Or can I download code from repository and play with it already self hosting my self? (not too technical my self, but will love to give it a try). Having a GUI sounds very appealing to me 😉 vs living in the terminal day by day.

the bash scrip link is working. But, the docker file is broken, a 404.
I know what docker does, but haven't use it yet. I am courios enought to maybe pull it up with good doc and AI.
Defitnley will be a challenge, but I have looking for a excuse to self host a project and learn, this may be.
If you get the link fix, much appriciated.
