I've never really grasped hypercores, slashtags, pkarr, etc... beyond the fact that they all use DHT's.
For now, I don't have any use case or need for any of it neither. And it indeed seems likely that won't change anytime soon.

Free, commodity relays are already highly centralizing as is.
If people could only pick one relay for the publication of each event (i.e. the limitation nuts have) nearly everyone would pick damus.

Expanding on the differences between Ralays and Mints a bit here (mostly for myself 🙈 ):
1. You can have the same event in multiple relays 🆚 Each nut belongs to one mint
2. You can backup and republish all of your events 🆚 You can backup your nuts but you remain ruggable despite of it
3. No cost for two users sending messages to each other's, different relay 🆚 A cost for two users sending nuts to each other's, different mint

Why? I don't see much proof of this.
1. Mints are very different from content, relays, niche services, ... Unlike with those, there's very little design space for them to be anything else than a commodity.
2. Without the mint auth'ing you (and thus turning it into a bi-directional relationship), what's stopping most users from just going with the fastest, cheapest, hardest one? What exactly breaks that centralizing feedback loop?
Hard-coding apps to stay away from mints that have over XXX reserves?
Then you probably end up with the same centralization, just more hidden across "different" mints.
3. Me and you using the same mint is the cheapest, most friction-less option. Scale that to all the other profiles in our networks and the incentives are there for us all to use the same mint.
This is why I'm interested in solutions that by default limit a mint's scope to groups of people explicitly trusting each other in some way.
I don't see many other decentralizing forces besides that.

You don't need reviews if people literally publicly state what mints they use. Can't get any more "Action > Words" than that 😂 .
But then you still have to determine **who** to look at for the reputable mints. Letting an algo automagically compute that for you (even based on your network) gets us in the same positive feedback loop we see with large npubs now. And please, oh please, let's not kid ourselves that Trending Mints are somehow a good idea.
In the end, you a need a quick way to combo-filter for Npubs that:
1️⃣ You know (i.e. part of your network)
2️⃣ Take responsibility
Communities help with both.
- They help determine what your network is.
- Admins are the obvious first npubs to look for when it comes to who's capable and willing to lead/run things like groups, relays, servers, mints, ...

If you ignore those or delegate them to other people (or mint packs or sth) you might as well just use one mint.

If I get it right, the incentives around #cashu make small Uncle Jim mints the most likely because:
- Big mints are rug factories and are easier to jail
- Spreading your money over dozens of mints is terrible UX, despite whatever cool multi-nut cypherpunk stuff you come up with to make it work technically
And honestly, I'm fine with that. I'm just not clear yet on how that would work, since I would very much like to run my "College Friends" mint **for** my college friends, not for whoever.

So let's say:
- I set up a group chat for my normie friends (Uncle Jimming a relay+blossom server for them).
- I run a lightning node (Alby Hub style)
- I run a #cashu mint on top of it
How do I now:
1. only let that private group use the mint?
2. maximize privacy?
Is there some kind of "Proof Of Group Member" that they can share?
Is there a way for me to run the mint in "Blind Mode" or something (and prove it to them!)?

All of that sounds more like an argument for apps that are excellent at:
1️⃣ Replies on [ANY CONTENT TYPE]
(without them having to actually display the content properly, let alone let users interact with it)
2️⃣ Aggregrating [ANY CONTENT TYPE] around the niche communities that are interested in them. Making discovery something that organically happens, instead of something you have to start iNfLuEnCoRing around for in the kind 1's you're blasting out to god-knows-where.

Humans don't organize by content type. I don't need follow lists for each kind. That's terrible UX and is playing Big Tech copy cat for no reason. I don't want to manage dozens of follow lists, trust score lists, recommended handler lists, etc...
I just need Communities and they solve most of that stuff as a byproduct.
I open up Zapstore and can look through the eyes of the communities I want app recommendations from. Or interact with each community with their recommended apps.
I open up Zapster when I arrive on a get together of my College Friends (private group) and can just launch a playlist of the music the people in that group have publicly valued. Or I just open that app when I'm alone in the car and get recommendations based on what's in my library, what I've zapped, ... Or I browse by Community.
Note that I'm not following any App or Music Artist for any of this to work.

Depends what your goal is.
You can just share the Npub like you do for users.
But most will instead want to invite others to experience a community **in a specific app**. For that there's several options:
For Web Apps you can share a URL of the group/community:
- this link can be personalized to the receiving user
- this link can end with the npub so other apps can pick up on it
For Native Apps I'm currently breaking my head on how I want to do this. I have this strong hunch that there's something really awesome that you can do when the community **is** a relay/media server. As in:
- it has a domain
- it can store events, file hashes and even the files (apk's etc...) itselves
- it can whitelist npubs (throw-away npubs included) for access to those events and files
- with cashu you can even set a little starter's budget aside for the invitee

Been having this on my list since I did some designs for mutiny in January. And I have some in-chat designs for it.
But in the end:
1. I think Widgets are a better fit for it. I'll share UI's of what I mean soon.
2. Spinning up a new cashu wallet has near-zero cost and friction. So just doing that is a great solution for when the split us equal amongst everyone involved

Especially if that widget is Nostr-comms-only (no legacy API's etc...)

For this kind of "Users in your network" mentions, where it's more important to recognize than to trust those mentioned users, I'm planning to look at:
- Your public follows + Private contacts
- The active profiles in the communities you're a part of (as in, not the lurkers)
That's it. No extrapolating X levels deep in follow lists.
Just focusing on getting data from the relays I'm already connected to anyway.

I use the "Chats" screen as a "Notifications + New Stuff" dashboard.
And I use emoji as icons for the various content types 🙈 .
So it can get crowdy in there if the messaged emoji are full colour.
This works though:
