bowtiedmara (npub1sng…lthh) posted a clip of RowdyCrypto’s livestream where he got a message on Telegram and immediately ploughed $250k USDC in (he ended up losing money 😂), and there’s other screenshots going around as well as a bunch of Argentina coins released in preceding days.
The scammers got $87 Million out and all they had to do was setup a Google form on a fresh domain and Milei promoted it, without which this wouldn’t have gone anywhere.
Looks like some social engineering and Milei being too stupid to understand “crypto” got him caught up in this mess.
No excuse - as far as blatant public political fuckups go, this is right up there with the worst I have ever seen. There’s no spinning it, and his socialist opposition will have a field day with this. I don’t know Argentine politics but it’s hard to imagine how his position is tenable after this.
Big implications for memecoins too - from Milei’s tweet to the peak was 39 minutes. Even the scammers will look at that and realise that unless they’re in on it, they can’t ride this stuff for quick gainz any more - everyone is exit liquidity.
