But I think this is really a question of generations and age - my grandmother, who taught me a lot, was born in 1901 and survived two world wars, hyperinflation, Nazis etc. My mother was born in 1924, she grew up to bad times. In our house things would be repaired, both had gardens and conserved food, things would only be replaced if absolutely gone. I try to use what I learned, which is not always possible.
