Eva Illouz published a response to her disqualification for the prize by Minister Kish:

I will not bow to attempts to force citizens fighting for the country's future to submit to a minister's dictates

[…] On the evening of March 31, a very senior political figure called me and delivered a message in a friendly tone: I would receive the prize if I retracted my signature from a petition I signed in 2021. This petition asked the International Court in The Hague to investigate the Israeli government's response to allegations of possible war crimes committed by Israeli soldiers in the West Bank. The truth is that after October 7, I am more skeptical about international courts. I no longer see them as institutions representing unblemished integrity. When so many countries committing horrific crimes are not prosecuted, why is Israel, a small state threatened from so many borders and fronts, the one being indicted?

[…] Nevertheless, I will not retract my signature. I will not retract it because in 2021 Palestinians in the West Bank were persecuted, and still are today, and the petition was a symbolic gesture protesting their treatment. I do not retract the intention behind the signature. I will continue to protest against any inhumane treatment of innocent Palestinians, just as I will continue to protest against the sanctimonious antisemitism of parts of the left.
