If we transfer from Twitter's statistics, only the most-active 2% really write anything, so once you've followed them and they've followed you back, you're basically done with your feed. 😅
I can tell that there are a lot more real people out there, though, as when I'm in the top-10 trending list, my notes get swamped with responses. I think that's actually what most people are looking at, and not their own follows.
They may not even have any follows. I keep seeing npubs who have written notes and replies, but have zero follows.
