There is a good quote from a left communist about "going where the masses are" kind of populist leftism. If you are with the people when they kneel, then you're kneeling with them. It starts in ballot box, it can extend to embracing national causes, popular unscientific superstition or family institution, or horrendous choices poor people do (re: last post), and it inevitable ends by kneeling in the church with the people, at the altar of fascism.
(He was talking about Stalinists eventually supporting Mussolini, he presaged Nazbols.)
