Yeah I read this post when it was first published.
The next step (my suggestion) is to actually show with a couple of examples of how to actually do it - a self hosting 101 for the average but tech savvy person.
I recommend starting with Jitsi and Bitwarden and Syncthing.
This should set up the ground work to understand how others can be done (hopefully) relatively easily.
