It's more than gross.
We take for granted the suffering in the world as we find it, as if it couldn't be any other way. We read about it and maybe imagine it could have been different, but it's sort of theoretical. It was already there. It slowly improves, maybe.
To actually witness day-by-day the step-by-step acceptance of more suffering - unevenly but also kind of randomly distributed - when there are alternatives that were actually experienced... That shows a lot about people's priorities and drives, how those can be exploited, the learned helplessness, the aggressive denial that it can been different. The scariest thing about this pandemic is not the virus. It's people's collective behaviour.
