well, it seems the strawman didn't help, because we still don't agree what the worst option is 😛.
though i guess your example of "private" prisons highlights the absurdity of what some call "private sector", like it's 100% paid by the state (well, also the slave labour of the prisoners actually), and none of the "customers" would possibly want to be there.
state run roads however are a giant subsidy for the car and trucking industry and it would be great to de-externalize the costs here.
