Today was my last day working for the government
For context, I was an employee in HHS on probation. I went in today knowing that I would be leaving shortly after. Everyone looked so sad. I counted no less than 5 people who cried over me leaving today. I got lots of people in disbelief asking how this could be, and saying that they thought we were safe. I met with our directors and they seemed offended by the language in the termination letter saying that I wasn’t a fit because my “ability, knowledge, and skills do not fit the Agency’s current needs”, and my “performance has not been adequate to justify further employment at the Agency”. I was promised letters of recommendations to the contrary if I wanted them. I’m happy that my short time was enough to make an impression on people, and I hope that I’ve been able to do some good in the time I had. That’s all I wanted in taking a job with the government anyway. It just feels bad to try to hard to help the American people for these faceless people that I have never talked to trying to gaslight me into thinking that I’m not good enough. My mental health does a perfectly good job of doing that on its own, thank you very much.
