How? Why bother burning power at all on building shit like LibreOffice that you only run once a year? Besides, a lot of people using the same binaries is a great way to figure out a set of build flags that give you decent performance, and not make your packages start segfaulting and falling apart with every other update — my reason for giving up on Gentoo. I'm using Void now and it strikes the right balance by providing me with binary packages that mostly work. And if I want to build anything from source, xbps-src gives me that opportunity — for one, I build a lot of things without WebP support and maintain my own set of patches for that.
I think what Gentoo are attempting to do its to copy that (successful) model.
