IME, the only people who obsess over this kind of ideological "purity" (Do as I say or die!!!) are the ones who have no other virtues and are otherwise powerless. That's why they cling to it so viciously, because without "The Party", so to speak, they're nothing.

There's a value to not compromising your ideals to secure victory, particularly the most important ones, but these people will always take it too far over the most minor of issues. Stuff like "hey maybe we should do [X] slightly differently" is treated like you just said "hey maybe we should all just troon out!!!", and it's real fucking exhausting to deal with.
