I think this moment of Trump demanding his supporters to parrot an obvious lie, that they themselves could verify to be false, is a moment where he is closest to Putin that he has ever been.
It looks like he could be testing the waters, if a Russian-style arrangement where there is no truth, but rather a generally-agreed-upon-story will fly or not.
And it is, for the US Republican Party, a watershed. Do they go down the rabbit hole into the Russian way, or do they admit their tšar has gone mad
