The compilation time system is way more reasonable than C macros or template metaprogramming. Also making the errors and the optionals explicit is a really good design decision.
The cross-compilation capabilities are also very interesting but not the best selling point imho.
Also guix provides many things, but most of them poorly. I'm still unable to compile anything reasonable for mingw in guix... :(
