I like the idea of a Web Monetisation API. Imagine using a PWA, you really enjoy it and spot a little banner that tells you you could pay a tiny sum for it every time you use it. You accept.
Now you’re paying a subscription for a piece of software because you *want to* and only if you actually *do* use it. You can stop paying at any point, you don’t lose anything.
But the dev might earn a little pocket money, all without ads or shady data stealing.
