I will give the Catholic Church credit for being one of the few ancient stultified enduring institutions of human power that doesn't slack on the outfits.
It disgusts me that US supreme court justices are too hip and modern to put on more elaborate robe or nice little wigs even as they revive the horrors of the past. Likewise parliaments are always trying to act like "we live in modern times" so they don't need to put on a costume.
I want amusing and impressive costumes. I want hats.
