I’m convinced that dropping the I in “aluminium” was an accident. I believe that we Americans were so concerned about getting rid of the superfluous Us in our version of English and we were aiming for that second U and we hit the I. To rectify this, I propose that the new American spelling of “aluminum” be changed to either “aluminim” or “alminim.”
