The game is still listed as free. I downloaded the game off GOG's website and installed it on Linux. I successfully installed it without issues and the game runs quite well. I double checked and I can download the game for Windows without the GOG Galaxy as well. I'm sorry you had this experience. This all seems puzzling to me.
