If you haven’t been paying attention to history or world events, the opposition party in an authoritarian regime rarely fares all that well.
Oh they hold elections and have courts that pretend to do their thing, but it’s a sham. Opposition leaders and protestors get locked up. News media are silenced. Elections are rigged.
I’m sure the Iranians weren’t expecting the Islamic Revolution when they were enjoying the beach in the 70s.
