Paul Lynch's Booker Prize-winning novel, Prophet Song, is one of few books to make me exclaim out loud.
It would be wrong to describe it as a futuristic dystopian novel, for the trauma of life in Lynch's totalitarian Ireland is what people around the world currently experience.
Focusing on a mother's struggle to protect her family, Lynch's dense, declarative prose is poetic and beautiful.
Given tragic events in the Channel, the final line, "the sea is life", took my breath away.
