At this point, anyone with a few dollars and a few hours can slapdash a personal #fediverse instance and never have to worry about being "censored". They're not doing it though, because the issue isn't just about being "cancelled"", it is also about having an audience that is forced to pay attention. And that's really the issue with walled gardens. Someone has to be an arbiter of acceptability.
