"content": "French mathematician and astronomer Jean Baptiste Joseph Delambre died #OTD in 1822.\n\nHe was director of the Paris Observatory \u0026 was involved in the precise measurement of the length of the earth's meridian, the basis of the original definition of the metre. He also wrote extensively on the history of astronomy.
