Having grown up when this country seemed to be addressing its long history of genocide, racism, misogyny and homophobia it is extremely depressing. I have said for ~40 yrs that the humanity's continued obsession with religion would be our downfall. Probably not just for the US, but very possibly extinction of the species (or at least reduction to bands of hunter-gatherers). And here we are regressing ever more rapidly.
