Because hashtags work so poorly here on Mastodon (by which I mean their reach and visibility is both uncertain and inconsistent) I have come to the conclusion that "too many" hashtags on a post is bad. The only sure way for someone to see your stuff is to have them follow you. Not only is an eye-glazing wall of hashtags a barrier to getting followed, but it trains the reader to skim and skip over your toots, even if they have followed you.
