I built Nyctal because I like building operating systems as a hobby and have been wanting a small, easily maintainable display server for those projects; one that has the potential to be compatible with more mainstream applications.
To that end, apart from the desired functionalities outlined in the README, my goal is to keep Nyctal very small and easily understood by a single developer.
