Tor browser actually does tell you what nodes you are using and it is open source itself.

The open source community builds many things, which is good. Zeronet isn't an alternative to Tor, it does something else (the storage is decentralized for censorship resistance). I2P is another darknet, and somewhat of an alternative to Tor, but it isn't predicated on the claim that Tor is insecure.

Furthermore, you don't need to trust the controllers of any individual node, as long as they are not the same. But even if the first and the last node happened to be compromised by the same party, this wouldn't mean that the end website, in this case Proton, can identify you, unless they are the party that compromised those nodes. And if they are, if they control the whole network, then they won't need any of these redirects anyway.
