I run a DIY Start9 (npub126n…e9ll) using ProxMox on an IBM minipc I got out of a dumpster. 😂😂😂
I did pay them for lifetime support because I wants to pay them for their software. ProxMox is a little extra that it’s not really necessary if that makes you uncomfortable. dimi (npub1r7p…nspg) is a ProxMox wiz so he can be a contact for that to discuss if you’re interested in more details.
There are a few differences between umbrel (npub1agh…mhct) and Start9 (npub126n…e9ll) though. The primary difference is the ability to get Start9 facing a Clearnet ip. So if that’s a problem, reach out and I’ll explain or you can research it yourself.
The experience is great. Really enjoyed learning about lightning and meeting other plebs. I would look for channel partners that you know or can reach out to. I would also be careful not to open really big channels or run a good chance take all your liquidity. Start with 1.5-2.0 channels if you have the sats to get 8-10 channels. Smaller channels are okay but anything below 1m will give you trouble staying balanced when things start moving. DO NOT do any 100,000 sat channels. Don’t fall victim to the “when Bitcoin hits 1m, that’s all you’ll need crap.” Last and most important, join The Nodestrich ♾️ (npub1hxf…5p6t) on Amboss (npub19tc…nlea) and on Telegram. daniel (npub1aeh…4nwx) maintains this and you will find help and channel partners there.
