The act of nominating Gaetz is a power play. The people advising Trump know Gaetz is awful. There is sadistic glee in knowing that they can nominate him and that it will go through.
The nomination of RFK Jr. is similar, in that they know it’s upsetting to thinking people. His qualifications (such as they are) are immaterial: it’s that his nomination upsets people who care.
These are a signal to the willfully ignorant, the small-minded adult bullies of the country that they are in control.
