It took almost 4 years before the bats decided to move into the bat house we put up. It's 15 feet in the air and out in an open area away from activity . Was told that is normal so do not be surprised if yours stays empty for a long time.
They should be leaving shortly as it is getting dark here. Hard to count but I'd say at least 15 to 18 roost in it now. Appear to be Brazilian free-tailed bats. Also known as Mexican free-tailed bats.
They moved in shortly after hurricane Ian passed through and survived Milton a few weeks back.
Thinking of putting up another one.
