I think you would find our design for both the Pubky protocol and app to be impressive, and meeting you standards.
We use Mainline DHT to store key-signed DNS records, for "public key domains" without ICANN.
These records point to any endpoint you like, self-hosted or trusted "homeservers." (No relays needed.)
This gives users of trusted homeservers a credible exit, allowing providers to compete with each other, and with self-hosting.
We also implemented semantic social graph for users to tag/filter any other key or URL.
It's cool. Web-compatible and more censorship resistant than anything I know of.
fwiw The Silk Road is why I got into Bitcoin at all. This set my career on a trajectory where I am managing a team of 20+ people building open source freedom-tech.
