I'll add that at least in the religious context, typically Mormons, the wives are not there primarily for sex and aren't replaceable. They may add, but they don't replace. Each person has value.

In the other example everyone is fungible / replaceable. There's nothing deeper. No one has any value, or if they do, it's fleeting. Any intimacy is illusory.
