I drifted for a good while, before ended up in academia, where I've had fun helping ecologists with their research, speeding up their computation and building things to support their research.
I get to learn a lot about a new domain I'm not an expert in (I hope to get my junior ecologist merit badge any day soon), and I'm helping those who are trying to save the planet by using the skills I have, which feels a much better use for them.
