I was driving some fifth graders around, and one girl told me out of the blue that she did not yet know if she would be "gay or trans." I tried to think of what to say, bc we were talking about what she liked in school. I just told her that her "romantic life" would not be the most important thing about growing up, and moved on.
Another kid was getting excited talking to me about how some 15 year-old on TikTok "had a baby, with a house and everything!" She was in sixth grade, and discussing it as a possibility instead of school.
One also confidently told me, and a whole group of adults, that Trump put all the homosexual people in concentration camps.
Kids say some odd things. I can't imagine being a teacher.
