If I buy an ebook, I absolutely have to make sure I can sever the link between the seller and what I bought with Calibre.

Whether it’s from Amazon, Kobo, etc., they can alter what you bought by claiming it’s an update: you think you’re installing an OS update but they just might be censuring sentences, altering the text or entire pages of the work you bought.

There were a few articles about this cancelling wokism happening in the literary world, like for 1984 by George Orwell.
