It is hard to find publishers for it. Did you try e-versions? There might be some manga type stuff. There is a lot of apps which have only webtoons, which do not come out on paper and they do have independent cartoonists. It might be a lot of pain in the butt finding your way around as there is really a lot of them, but they are out there.
Depends on age, but I think Asterix was the best as a kid. It was funny, silly and NO sex or sexuality or even romance at all. Just a lot of empty roman sandals.
