I onboarded my dad using Primal without knowing it did this, and I think he fell into this situation of being overwhelmed by stuff from people he didn’t actually choose. I think it may be one of the reasons I don’t see him posting anymore.
Following topics until you discover accounts you actually like is a far better way.
Following as many people as possible or whatever’s trending only works if you’re similar to the average of all Nostr users. As folks who know what it’s like to not be mainstream, we shouldn’t assume everyone in our corner fits in with our “mainstream,” either.
auto-following on account creation is a mistake. especially for nostr clients. takes a bunch of agency away and puts the person in a defensive position of “why am i following this account?”
trending, search, and topics are far better leads to a follow.
