Scottish poet and the first major named literary figure to write in Scots John Barbour died #OTD in 1395.
He is best known for his epic poem "The Brus," consisting of more than 13,000 lines of rhyming couplets. In addition to "The Brus," Barbour wrote other works, including "The Bruce" (a shorter, earlier version of "The Brus") and "The Buik of Alexander," a narrative poem about the life of Alexander the Great.
